dishin the dirt

CRAFT FIND OF THE WEEK
You all know we love Third Drawer Down Teatowels - not just because they are works of art that live in the kitchen but because they honour home and hearth. We hope that those of you in Melbourne make it into the NDC for the You Watch, I'll Dry show.

To be honest with you our fetishising of the teatowel goes beyound that - it is in fact our country town souvenier of choice- the commemorative spoon coming a close second, followed by the cloth patch. Here are a couple of vintage linens we yanked out of the third drawer of the hml staff room:

And here is a delicious photo spread from Martha Stewart Living June 2001 (yes Ramona has every issue since may 97 and has just spent a small fortune buying the entire 1994 back catalogue - it's an obsession - no you cannot borrow them, but you can come over for a cuppa and a browse anytime!)

I'm with you on the tea towel. Its a lovely medium, not always suited for drying dishes, but that's what a dishrack is for!

I,ve been cutting them up and making stuff out of them!!! Is that a no no? Your alphabet looked great at morphe 2 by the way, I was lucky enough to get there! Looked like quite a few hours in that.

Kirsty you have no idea - that alaphabet may as well have been a shakespearean production - it was that epic! So glad you got to Morphe -I'm sure it was fantastic.
And of course it's not a no no to chop up yer tea towels - they are usuall made of fantastic linen. There are some nice ones at Ikea that Im planning on turning into a quilt!

tea towel collectors unite!

I have people bringing them back from every corner of the tea towel using world.

And here I was for so many, many years, thinking I was the only one....

it's amazing how anytime you bring up the teatowel there are so many fellow collectors raising their hand in 'me too' appreciation...

And Kirsty, cutting up the teatowel is never a crime, just look at the great work people like Penelope Durston make from the chopped teatowel By the way thanks for the feedback on Morphe 2, we were disappointed not to make it this year, espeically after seeing what everyone had been making...I'm really looking forward to Carly's flicker page of the opening!!!...

and Ramona i'll see YOU in the manchester section of IKEA!
